This Sunday is communion Sunday at my church. We celebrate communion as a church the first Sunday of every month. But are we restricted to just celebrating communion in church? Nope. If you are a follower of Christ you know He instructs us to “Do This In Remembrance Of Me.” He didn’t say only do it in church. Why? Because there was NO CHURCH at that moment. Churches really developed after His resurrection. Christ did send the apostles out while He was still on earth. They did share the Word with people. But there wasn’t a “church” per se. The New Testament is full of letters, most written by Paul, to the different churches giving them instructions, pointing out what they are doing wrong, and discussing the challenges of life.
I want to state clearly that I am a follower of Christ. Technically, I am a member of the United Methodist Church. However, I first put the teachings of Christ, not the Book of Discipline. When I discuss “religion” or my beliefs, I will be speaking as a follower of Christ, not a Methodist Church member or representative.
