Back in the day I could rack up $50 in saving by using coupons and combining them with store sales, double coupon days, and unadvertised savings, such as markdowns.
In today’s world coupons aren’t as lucrative and stores no longer double them. With anticipated price hikes and shortages due to oil sanctions, and post-covid supply chain issues, we need to use every opportunity to cut costs available to us.
Let me share how I trim a few dollars off my shopping budget.
The first example is on pepperoni. I have a coupon from Kroger for $0.50 off one package of Hormel peperoni, any variety, four ounce or larger. That is a good coupon on it’s own.
I also use the ibotta app. This particular day the ibootta app has $1.25 off Hormel Pepperoni Cup n’ Crisp. Combined with the $0.50 off means I can get $1.75 off the purchase.
The regular price of the pepperoni is $3.99. After the coupon and the ibotta app rebate, I pay only $2.24 for a package of pepperoni.
Now, let’s look at some coffee savings.
I drink coffee. A lot of coffee. In fact, it doesn’t matter what brand of coffee, I just want coffee.
On this particular shopping trip I am purchasing Maxwell House coffee. My local Dollar General store has Maxwell House on sale for $2.00 off the purchase of two 30.6 ounce containers.
Now, the ibotta app offers $1.00 off a 24 ounce container, maximum purchase of five. I purchased two. Also, $2.00 off the purchase of Maxwell House Coffee Pods. I purchased one box.
By combining the in-house discount and the ibotta app rebate I managed to get $6.00 off my purchase of coffee.
So, while coupons may not be the big deal they were a few year ago, combining them with apps such as ibotta you can save decent money.
These are just a couple of small examples. I have earned tens of dollars per shopping trip using the ibotta app. Then, I cash in when I need the extra money, like for an anniversary present for Mr. Holstein. Want to try it?
