The past week has had a few challenges. There were no major things. No sicknesses or unanticipated appointments. Just a series of small thing. Well, I did have a hard drive crash hard. As of this writing, I am not sure if any of the data can be recovered. I have a bat signal up for my father-in-law on that.
Monday, the 7th, marked the 10th anniversary of my son’s suicide. It is always a difficult day. I generally go radio silent. I may read some social media but I don’t post anything except a memorial picture of my son.
There is a long backstory to his death. There was an accusation of sexual assault, several bad decisions, a year in a Boston jail - charges ended up being dropped - and nine months in Greenbrier County in a juvenile program. I have a draft of a story about what all the family went through, but I get so upset when I review it I can’t move forward.
I have a new post at Two Lane Renaissance which you can read. I talk about the day Bryan died and how I got through the next few months. Spoiler alert - Jesus saves! Now for something less depressing.
Have you ever wanted to serve a new snack to family or friends? I created a recipe I call dragon balls. You serve it with a horseradish and sour cream dip. I share the recipe on the Everyday Life at Holstein House. If you aren’t subscribed you will want to do that.
I also share with you a great thrifting find I came across a while back. It is a copper bowl that I managed to get for a really great price! It has one specific purpose. Read more about it in Everyday Thrifting at Holstein House.
Without getting into the politics of the situation in the Ukraine, I want to encourage you to do one thing: pray.
We often pooh-pooh prayer, saying, “Well, all I can do is pray.” When we should be saying, “I can PRAY!” Don’t sell prayer short. God doesn’t. I believe in the power of prayer. And while some things are part of the end-of-time prophesy, I believe the prayers of the believers can affect things. So, pray for a quick resolution to the problems, for the comforting of the Spirit for the refugees, and the salvation of souls.
In Everyday Thrifting at Holstein House I share a little money saving tip for grocery shopping. With the craziness on the horizon for food, every dollar saved is a dollar you can use to build your pantry.
Have you ever heard someone say, “I left that church because I wasn’t being fed?” I have. I’ve had a pastor tell me all he can do is set the table. I’ve written about my thoughts on the type of table that needs set, and why. If you read it please share your perspective.
