I know it has been a while since you have heard from me. While 2021 was a very erratic year for many, this isn't a business request, this is a personal request.
I am asking you to donate to my friend Diane to help offset expenses she will have as part of her treatment and preparation for liver transplant. (Read to the bottom to learn what I am contributing.)
This isn't some random friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend that might not be a legitimate need. I have known Diane for over thirty years.
Our husbands were in the West Virginia Army National Guard together. They were assigned to the 1/150th Armored Cavalry, in Dunbar. Diane and I were instrumental in reestablishing the Family Support Group (FSG) for the unit. We served as officers in the FSG together.
We organized monthly meetings, and arranged for informational speakers to help the spouses understand National Guard Service, and benefits to which they were entitled. We organized bake sales to raise money for Christmas gifts for the children of the guardsmen. While our husbands were not deployed, we were there during the Desert Thunder/Desert Storm period. We remained friends after my divorce, and have remained in contact with each other since.
In 2020, Diane was diagnosed with a non-alcoholic liver disease. After working with her local doctors, and doing some research on her own, she decided to go to the University of Virginia (UVA), in Charlottesville, for evaluation. She was placed on the liver donor list where she was eligible to receive a donor liver from a deceased, or living donor.
Diane needs help defraying some of the expenses associated with travel and lodging for her trips to the UVA. When you see the list of donors and you notice I am not listed it isn't because I am not helping.
I am currently in the evaluation phase to become a living organ donor for Diane.
Yes, you read that right. I am offering part of my liver to help my friend Diane. If I meet the qualifications UVA will schedule and perform the transplant surgery.
If the team decides I do not meet the qualifications, I WILL be making a financial contribution to her.
Start 2022 by helping others. Please donate to help my friend Diane.
